This intriguing indie game could kickstart a new genre of AI horror

Much like analog horror, AI horror could become a compelling modern subgenre

If you’re someone who enjoys horror as a genre, you’ve definitely witnessed the rise of analog horror. Popularized by projects like Kris Straub’s Local 58 and The Backrooms in the late 2010s and early 2020s, it went on to influence tons of game projects like the upcoming Forbidden Solitaire, Home Safety Hotline, Who’s LIla?, and many others. Analog horror is well trod territory at this point, and, while I don’t doubt that the genre has plenty of innovation left in it, I’ve been looking ahead to another media-influenced subgenre that felt inevitable: AI horror.

The developers of 1000xResist just announced a game on April 9th that fits the bill perfectly, and it’s published by Scarlet Hollow developers Black Tabby Games. The game is called Prove You’re Human, and the Steam description for the game is simple and stark: “An Ai dares to dream she is human. You’ve been hired to put her in her place.”
