Backlogged: Control

Familiar and fine

I have owned a version of Alan Wake on every console that has existed since it came out in 2010. I have never so much as booted one up in the 16 years since I bought the first of many versions.

It’s not that I haven’t wanted to play it. It’s not that I’m not interested in playing it. It’s not that it’s not my kind of game — it totally is. It’s not even that I haven’t had time. I just … never got around to it.

Which is part of the reason why, in 2019, I didn’t play Control when it came out. And, while everyone I knew loved Control and told me to play it, I just never got around to it either. When we came up with the idea for Backlogged, Control was the first thing I thought of — mostly because of the recently announced sequel expected this year.

And now, having played (most of) it, I can say … it’s fine.
