A History of Helldivers 2: The Meridian Supercolony
Helldivers died in the millions fighting to flood the Meridian Supercolony with mysterious Dark Fluid.
The Barrier Worlds had, up until the failure of the Terminid Control System, served as a bulwark between the bugs’ infestation and Super Earth. Three of the worlds had already been transformed beyond recognition; Meridia was another thing altogether. The planet had become a Supercolony, billowing forth endless spores and mutated monsters. It was an affront to democracy, a clear declaration of tyranny on behalf of the Terminids, and it would only continue to belch forth spores that would eventually threaten Super Earth.
This was an unprecedented problem, and it required a radical solution. A cadre of Super Earth scientists and technicians came forward with a secret weapon that could prove up to the task. The first thing is to understand how Terminids terraform worlds, turning them into not just beacons of fascism, but utterly inhospitable for human life. Terminid colonies are pockmarked with deep tunnels that go far beyond the surface of the earth, creating warrens and tunnels that allow them to hide until they are called into action by pheromones.
At the end of the First Galactic War, Super Earth had achieved total victory over the Cyborgs, Bugs, and the mysterious alien race known as the Illuminate. The Illuminate used alien technology, powered by an explosive substance known as Dark Fluid. In order to ensure the future safety of Super Earth and all of its civilians, High Command had confiscated and stored that Dark Fluid away.
Meridia was lost, that much was clear. But with the fortitude of the Helldivers and the intellect of Super Earth’s Ministry of Science, the threat to democracy could be eliminated. The Dark Fluid would be repurposed now, forcibly injected past the crust of Meridia using Tectonic Drills engineered for this specific purpose.
Operation Enduring Peace
The operation began with the Helldivers clearing a path to Meridia, ensuring that Helldivers could land en masse on the planet and begin the procedure.
Briefing: The time has come to address the Terminid Supercolony on Meridia. Using an experimental substance weaponized by our top scientific minds, the Helldivers will conduct a targeted strike to permanently end the threat posed by the Supercolony. Super Earth's top scientific minds have been gathered on Moradesh to weaponize a highly classified, experimental substance known as Dark Fluid. Dark Fluid is a form of synthesized exotic matter liberated from the Illuminate following the First Galactic War. In a scientific breakthrough, our scientists have used it to engineer a solution to the Terminid Supercolony on Meridia. The first phase of this operation is to secure a route to Meridia, and hold the staging ground until sufficient quantities of Dark Fluid can be weaponized and deployed. This is the priority: all other territorial losses are acceptable to ensure the success of this operation.
Once Super Earth forces landed on the Supercolony, they were in for a rude surprise.
