Rogue Remembers: Overlord (2007)
For our very first Rogue Remembers, we visit Overlord, the weird 2007 title that mixes Pikmin and Lord of the Rings
Overlord is what I can only really describe as a Pikmin-like. The action-adventure-RTS was developed by Triumph Studios in 2007 — 6 years after Pikmin, and 3 years after Pikmin 2 — and published by Codemasters and EA.
If you’re not familiar with Nintendo’s little minion series, Pikmin follows the adventures of Captain Olimar, a very small Astronaut who lands on Earth and finds an army of tiny, plant-like beings to control around. These Pikmin minions collect fruit, ship parts, and even Game Boys for him. Overlord is mostly similar to Pikmin from a mechanical perspective — you have Minions of varying types and colors, and you generate new Minions by collecting lifeforce from certain enemies.
Tonally, however, the games are pretty damn different.
