There are a total of 40 vehicles in Mario Kart World. Each vehicle has slightly different stats for speed, acceleration, weight, and handling.

This BigFriendly.Guide will tell you how to unlock them (it's easy) and compare their stats.

How to unlock vehicles in Mario Kart World

Mario Kart World starts out with 11 vehicles unlocked by default. For the rest, you'll unlock one randomly every time you collect 100 coins.

That's it. It doesn't matter if you collect them during Free Roam or a race. In my experience, you'll (accidentally) get just under 100 coins per Grand Prix, so that's a good way to collect them — especially if you're trying to also unlock Rainbow Road or Mirror Mode. If you're looking for just a quick and dirty unlock method, there are coin trucks in Free Roam that just drop coins every few seconds, and you can follow it around the map until you get all of the vehicles.

Each vehicle in Mario Kart World has four stats — speed, acceleration, weight, and handling.

Speed is the top speed. Acceleration is how fast a vehicle reaches that speed. Higher weight vehicles manage collisions with other drivers better. And handling refers to how good the vehicle is at turning.

The thing is, each character also has their their own stats. Super broadly, they're based on their size. Heavy characters like Bowser have higher weight (obviously), but that translates into slower acceleration and lower handling. Small characters like Toad (gross) have lower weight, but higher acceleration and handling.

I eyeballed the stats below, so they might not be perfect, but I'm pretty sure about them. They're also based on an average-sized character — namely, Mario. Remember that your character choice will affect these stats.

Every vehicle averages out to 2.0 on their stats except for the Hyper Pipe — its acceleration, weight, and handling push it slighty above the average — and the Mecha Trike — its low acceleration and weight dip it below the average.

That said, different courses require different stats. Lots of twists and turns will easier with a high handling vehicle, but a high speed vehicle with be better on highways and straightaways.
