FBC: Firebreak Specific Samples and where to find them
This BigFriendly.Guide will explain all about Specific Samples and how you'll use them in FBC: Firebreak.

Specific Samples in FBC: Firebreak are a special kind of currency you'll need to upgrade the game's best perks. They only become available at higher Corruption levels — the first place you'll probably even see them is in the Research menu (where you'll have none of them).
This BigFriendly.Guide will explain all about Specific Samples and how you'll use them in FBC: Firebreak.
Where to find each Specific Sample

Specific Samples are, well, specific to the jobsites where each of Firebreak's five jobs take place.
- Resonant Globs (green icon) come from the Frequency Shift jobsite
- Achromatic Sand (light blue icon) comes from Ground Control
- Viscous Strips (yellow icon) come from Paper Chase
- Whispering Ash (red icon) comes from Hot Fix
- Numbed Splinters (dark blue icon) come from Freezer Duty
You'll find some samples just lying around these jobs, although they're quite rare (they look like dust and are the same color as their icon). To guarantee that they'll appear in the job you're entering, however, you'll need to…
Specific Samples come from Corrupted Items

When you start a job in Firebreak, you'll choose the Clearance (1 through 3), the Threat, and the Corruption levels. You need to clear Clearance 1 to unlock Clearance 2, and Clearance 2 to unlock Clearance 3. And you need to be on Clearance 3 to unlock Corruption level. (You can change the Threat at any time.)
Once you're on Clearance 3 and you add in some Corruption, Corrupted Objects (between none and three, depending on the Corruption level you set) will appear in your job. These are basically Altered Items from Control.
During a job, these items will be marked with a purple rubber duck icon on your HUD. They'll fly around causing all sorts of problems like increasing enemy armor or speed, or playing a deadly game of Red Light, Green Light.

You can't damage Corrupted Items with your normal weapons (unless you have Black Rock ammo). Luckily, if there are Corrupted Items around, you'll also find Black Rock Neutralizers, and those can deal damage. You can also hit them with your ultimate (if you've unlocked it). Look for Black Rock Neutralizers in ammo resupply stations and saferooms.
Once you destroy a Corrupted Item, it'll drop a bunch of that jobsites Specific Samples. Collecting them shares the resource with your entire team, so don't worry if you don't pick any up yourself. You'll still get them at the end of the job. Just be sure that if you die while holding any Samples that you return to your body to pick them back up.
How to use Specific Samples in FBC: Firebreak
Specific Samples are only used in the Research menu where you research Perks.
The first level of every perk only costs Lost Assets (like Classified Documents) to unlock. Unlocking the Strong and Resonant versions of each perk requires Samples and Specific Samples. Strong Perks are just stronger versions of the Perk. Resonant Perks are ones that affect your squadmates as well, but only when you're close to each other.

Unlocking a Perk costs five Samples. The Strong version costs 10 Samples and 5 Specific Samples. The Resonant versions cost 15 Samples and 10 Specific Samples.
