How to unlock Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World
Mirror Mode is a real pain to unlock in Mario Kart World. Here's everything you'll need to do to unlock the special mode.

Mirror Mode swaps left and right on every course in Mario Kart World, giving you a different feel as you're racing in Grand Prixs, Knockout Tours, or even Free Roam. Unlocking it is ... a pain, unfortunately, and you'll need to do basically everything Mario Kart World has to offer before it'll show up.
In this Big Friendly Guide, we'll walk you through how to unlock the Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World, and how you can activate it in Free Roam.
How to unlock Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World

Figuring out what all you need to do to unlock Mirror Mode is a task unto itself, as there is a lot of conflicting information out there. In researching this guide, I bumped into a lot of videos that had tons of things you needed to do, some of which aren't actually necessary in our experience. Shoutout to Nintendo Life here, who tested a few theories and came up with a guaranteed plan for unlocking Mirror Mode. While some of this might not end up being necessary to unlock Mirror Mode, I'm going to walk you through exactly what I did, which unlocked it for me, and also worked for Nintendo Life. Do not skip any steps, as we're not 100% sure what's superfluous — if anything — and what isn't. We did all of this in single player.
- Complete every Grand Prix with a Gold trophy (first place overall) on 150 CC difficulty
- Complete every Knockout Tour on 150 CC in the top four
- Collect 10 or more Peach Medallions in Free Roam
- Run over 10 or more Question Mark Blocks in Free Roam
- Complete 10 or more P-Switch Challenges in Free Roam
Once you've done all five of those things, you must re-win a Gold trophy in the Special Cup at 150 CC.
After the credits roll (you can skip them), a new cutscene will play, which will unlock the ability to select Mirror Mode when choosing a difficulty. Note that Mirror Mode is always at 150 CC, so prepare to get a little sweaty if you want to check out the reversed courses.
How to activate Mirror Mode in Free Roam

While Rainbow Road doesn't seem to be accessible in Free Roam, Mirror Mode is. To activate it, you need to recreate the cutscene that plays when you unlock Mirror Mode. Drive to Peach Stadium, take the ramps up, and then drive off onto the red roof. Then drive to the front of the castle and you'll see the giant stained-glass Peach window. Drive into the window and you'll get a Mario 64-like shimmer. When you get spit out on the other side, you'll be in the mirror dimension version of Free Roam.
