Double Fine launches a Kickstarter for their next big Indie game jam and the pitches rule
Double Fine might not be at XBOX anymore, but they have bigger goals than ever before
Multiple studios regained independence from Microsoft and Xbox amid the unprecedented layoffs earlier this year. One of those studios is Double Fine Productions, known for Psychonauts, Brütal Legend, and Costume Quest. Now, newly independent, the studio has announced a new Kickstarter campaign.
You ready for a mouthful? The "Amnesia Fortnight 2026 - Indie Reboot: A Double Fine Productions Game Jam, Documentary and Kickstarter Campaign" launched yesterday and as of the time of writing, has already surpassed $310,000 of its $400,000 goal.
This new Kickstarter brings an incredible twenty-six small, unique game pitches from members of the Double Fine staff for fans and backers to vote on starting today (you can watch every game's 30-second pitch here).
After the voting has wrapped up on September 6th, only four games will make it to the prototyping stage of the two-week-long game jam, which will run from September 9th through the 23rd. After the two weeks, demos for the four games will be sent out for people to try for themselves and vote on a winner. If the Kickstarter is successful (which it almost certainly will be), the winner will get an additional two weeks to work out any bugs and polish before the game's release.
Throughout the process, Double Fine will be streaming the event on their Twitch channel for people to watch the process live. 2 Player Productions, the documentary team that has produced docu-series for Double Fine in the past, will also be there to document the adventure.

The Kickstarter shines light on Double Fine's course of action post-Microsoft. The team claims claims that they have "bigger games" in development and a mystery small game they'll show off at PAX. The Kickstarter also has a surprise stretch goal: at $1 million, Double Fine will commit to making Brütal Legend 2, a follow-up to the Jack Black heavy metal adventure from 2009. It'll be exciting to following along and see just how far this Kickstarter goes.
