Game developers at Necrosoft Games, who most recently released Demonschool, have launched a massive games bundle on the platform itch.io to benefit the Game Industry Hardship Fund, which is managed by industry-wide union United Videogame Workers. The fund is used to benefit colleagues who have been laid off, paying crucial costs like medical bills, debt, and rent.
For $10, you can get over 100 games, and there are some bangers here, including A Short Hike, SkateBIRD, Dungeon Bodega Simulator, and Cook, Serve, Delicious! You can also add an additional donation to the transaction if you have the extra cash and wish to support the cause.
It's been an absolutely brutal year for the games industry, with layoffs at Microsoft, Riot Games, Epic Games, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, ZA/UM, and more, with an additional 1,600 jobs set to be cut at Microsoft over the coming year. It's both heartwarming to see developers mobilize to help their colleagues and depressing that such an initiative is necessary in an industry where executives are collecting big bonuses and pushing the use of AI to replace human workers.
The bundle will be alive for approximately two more weeks, and its definitely worth checking out. Not only is it for a good cause, but it covers such a wide spread of genres, art styles, and scope that there's definitely something for everyone in this vast smorgasbord of games.
