Grand Theft Auto 6 is probably the most anticipated video game of all time (deservedly or not). It was formally announced by Rockstar Games in December of 2023. It might have come out as early as the first half of 2025, but was officially planned for a fall 2025 release.

While developing GTA 6 back in 2020, Rockstar, a company notorious for crunch, made some changes to improve morale. "We have taken conscious steps to improve our approach to developing games in order to reduce the need for overtime," said Jennifer Kolbe as reported by Kotaku.

In February of 2024, Rockstar ended their remote work policy, and brought remote employees back into the offices for "productivity and security reasons." The decision was criticized by the Independent Workers’ union of Great Britain who represent the game's devs there. Rockstar, at the time, was still confident in a 2025 release date.

In May of 2025, the game was delayed to May of 2026 to accommodate the amount of work left to do.

At the end of October 2025, Rockstar fired as many as 40 employees. The company says it was because they were sharing confidential information. The IWGB argues that those employees were trying to unionize and that Rockstar is union-busting.

Which brings us to today, and Rockstar announcing that GTA 6's launch date is now November 19.

Of 2026.
