Helldivers 2 players are hunting down an Automaton death laser
Helldivers 2 players are pursuing a powerful, world destroying weapon across Automaton worlds in the new campaign.
Arrowhead Game Studios has changed the way players engage in the Galactic War, shifting the storytelling method, from a series of Major Orders that lasted a few days to more focused campaign narratives that take a couple of weeks at a time. The first Campaign focused on culling the Illuminate, and the second Campaign had Helldivers construct massive towers to release Termicide 2.0 across a series of worlds. (Don't worry, I'm fully confident that this won't be like the first Terminid Control System, which led to a little bit of an uh-oh.)
Now, Super Earth intelligence – which is, of course, never misleading – confirms that the Automatons are constructing a Death Laser on one of their worlds. Helldivers will need to comb through hostile Automaton worlds to find this Death Laser, lest it go online and be turned on Super Earth worlds. As the Helldivers 2 campaign continues, the war has escalated.
Worlds used to be handed back and forth, and then Meridia collapsed into a black hole. That black hole would eventually be weaponized, and it shattered a few other planets on its path to Super Earth. Super Earth High Command has its own planet-destroying technology too; players have updated the Democracy Space Station with the Star of Peace, a powerful weapon capable of imploding worlds.
Now, the Automatons are developing their own potent technology, and the Helldivers are deployed to investigate the matter further. It'll be interesting to see how this story develops; Helldivers seemingly had the advantage back in February, when the path opened up to the Automaton homeworld of Cyberstan. The invasion of Cyberstan was ultimately unsuccessful. We've been thwarted before by those god damned Cyborgs; we'll have to see how the story unfolds over the next couple of weeks.
