Look Outside's creator keeps cramming the horror gem full of new content
Look Outside has received several patches since its launch, and the developer is teasing a 2.0 update that could arrive for Halloween.

Look Outside is one of the best games of 2025, which is no small feat in such a stacked year. The RPG Maker survival horror game takes place within a single apartment building during a horrific cosmic event. No matter what the title of the game suggests, you should absolutely not look outside. Instead, the protagonist – an unemployed man with a relatively advanced sense of empathy – must try and survive in your apartment for fifteen days while planning expeditions through the rest of the building to find supplies, answers, and maybe a few friends.
The developer, Francis Coulombe, released Update 1.7 on Sept. 5. He has stated that a 2.0 patch is currently planned for Halloween, but the date cannot be guaranteed. None of these updates have dramatically altered the content of the game; they're full of balance changes, art tweaks, and other small changes. Existing bosses have gotten cool new themes, or new cutscenes.
It's an impressive feat, considering Look Outside is already beautifully and thoroughly fleshed out. The bosses are twisted by the cosmic sights outside the building, turned into massive monsters of teeth, flesh, and eyes. At launch, Look Outside boasted one of the most inventive and terrifying boss galleries in the genre. It's cool to see these tragic characters get rounded out a little bit more.
If you have yet to check out Look Outside, it's worth your time. The 10-12 hour campaign is full of dozens of terrifying beasts, but the narrative also rewards players who try to tend and befriend their poor, blighted neighbors. No one is having a great time, but you can turn your apartment into a haven for weirdos and gamers.
Coulombe is currently working on a new survival horror RPG called Malison: The Cursed City, but it's great to see the developer continue to update Look Outside. Fans are still speculating over the cosmic mysteries and conclusions the game draws, and the more material at hand, the deeper they can delve.
