PUBG extraction shooter Black Budget has been cancelled
The PUBG: Black Budget extraction shooter from PUBG Corp has been cancelled following two closed alpha tests
The upcoming extraction shooter from Krafton and PUBG Corporation, PUBG: Black Budget, has been cancelled according to a development update shared to the game's Steam page earlier today.
After two Closed Alpha tests back in December 2025 and June 2026, the studio behind PUBG: Battlegrounds has decided to end active development on their stating that the game's direction "would not allow us to deliver an experience players could enjoy over the long term." The team went on to thank everyone who participated in the tests and said that they plan to bring what they've learned working on PUBG: Black Budget into their future titles.

The premise of the game was interesting enough, but sung a similar song to that of Bungie's Marathon: runs took place on an island that's stuck in a time loop, infected with what is referred to as the Anomaly, corrupting the world and shrinking the playable zone, not unlike that of a Battle Royal.
The extraction shooter was meant to include a massive 2.5km x 2.5km open-world map, 15 teams of 3 players per match, various zombie/infected enemy types, and biological threats for players to look out for. There was also a home base that players would visit between games to craft new items and raise their skill levels to get ready for the next run.
Hopefully the developers working on the game are folded into other projects or the core PUBG game and its future updates. There has been no news of layoffs at PUBG Corporation, but we'll let you know if that changes.
