The Studio X and Dungeons and Dragons teams are pushing to join the union at Wizards of the Coast
The teams behind Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, and Dual Masters are looking to join the union created earlier this year at Wizards of the Coast
The teams behind Dungeons and Dragons as well as Studio X—the team that makes Magic: The Gathering and Dual Masters—have joined United Wizards of the Coast - CWA (Communications Workers of America), the union founded by members of the Magic: The Gathering: Arena team back in April of this year.
After waiting several months for the union to be fully recognized by the companies it falls under, UWOTC-CWA is now an officially recognized union that currently only contains the Arena team. Now, the D&D, Magic: The Gathering, and Dual Masters teams, are looking to join the union as well, confirmed by an announcement made this week on the union's website.
UWOTC-CWA has given leadership at Wizards of the Coast until October 13th of this year to voluntarily recognize these additions, with a petition that you can sign to show your support of this action.
This is great news in a time where more and more companies are facing layoffs. The union already grants the employees of these teams certain protections—specifically protections against said layoffs, forced usage of generative AI, required return to work policy implementation, and more. For the D&D and Studio X teams to join would mean better working conditions for everyone involved.
The initial recognition from Wizards of the Coast missed its May 1st deadline earlier this year, leading to the union forming officially in the back half of June. Hopefully this addition to the union is a smoother, faster process.
