Pat's Labor Episode 02: Longshot

Another thing we discovered in this episode is that Patlabor is funny as hell.

Wow, cool robot!

Will Patlabor be a topical series to cover in 2025? As we learned last week, The Early Days OVA takes places in the distant future of 1998, where analog telephones exist alongside two story tall bipedal robots. But we quickly learned in the second episode that not only will the series be dealing with the issue climate change, political protest, and transnational terrorism, but that they will each be links in the very chain that resulted in a giant robot police force.

All that rich world building is a good reason to learn about the intersection of environmentalism and labor organizing, which happens to be Pat's labor on this episode of Pat's Labor.

Another thing we discovered in this episode is that Patlabor is funny as hell. If the three of use weren't already completely on board with the charming slice of life stories and lovable characters, this episode's biting political satire and exquisite spoofing of the mecha genre sealed the deal.
