Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is so good I’m actually using the Switch 2 how I’m supposed to
Sometimes, a game is worth moving pieces of your life around for
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave seems to be the best reviewed game of the month, with Control Resonate seeming like mostly a hit (with some love-it-or-hate-it gameplay) and Wolverine acting as a bit of a disappointment based on the sky high expectations (I’m loving it, personally). And as a big fan of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, I know I need to sink my teeth into Fortune’s Weave before Game of the Year, as the game has major potential there.
There are just about … a thousand things standing in my way, which leads to one major problem: time.
See, Fortune’s Weave is a 100+ hour game, and that + seems to be doing a lot of heavy lifting for this one. And — look I don’t ever like to suggest I’m busier than other people, because we all have shit going on … but — I’ve got a small business to run logistics for, a small business to write around two articles/reviews a week for, freelance gigs to try and help pay the bills at home, a YouTube and Twitch channel to keep current, a weekly podcast, graduate school for my Masters in Social Work and all of the class attendance and homework that implies, an unpaid internship for about 16.5 hours a week (not including the commute, which is about 90 min twice a week), a preschool-aged loud mouth who I love spending time with, a very cool baby, and an extremely understanding wife who I like to go on dates with.
I’m tired.

I am writing this on my phone, in bed, which is where I’ve written most of my stuff since the baby was born. I will know peace — a peace that allows for 100 hour games more easily — once again, but not until Spring of 2028, when I break through upper education, get my masters. get my license, get a job, and … immediately start working toward my second, more important license. Woof.
Anyway, there’s a lot going on. And I promise that’s relevant to this article outside of just giving you a life update.
See, Fortune’s Weave is so damn good that I actually find myself removing my Switch 2 from the dock on the regular.
I’ve long been a Controller Conner when it pertains to Nintendo games. I don’t want to use the silly mouse. I don’t want to detach the joycons. I don’t want to hold this small tablet in my hands so I can drop it on my face when I’m fading in bed … I want to sit on my couch, in my den with my three tvs, and play with my Pro Controller.
This is how I experience every major Nintendo game, and I don’t think I’ve put meaningful time into a Switch game on handheld since Breath of the Wild first came out.
But with Fortune’s Weave, I’m breaking my habits out of necessity.
