Motorslice is a platformer that draws from the classics, for good and for ill

In Motorslice, the parry is mightier

Motorslice is an indie game that released earlier this month on May 5, and it’s one of those games that’s very easy to convey. It’s a platformer in the vein of Prince of Persia and Mirror’s Edge, with one big addition: a giant chainsword that can parry any incoming attack. I play as P, a machine hunter making her way up a massive megastructure, hunting down automated construction equipment and eliminating them with wide swings of her massive sword.

It’s an adventure that can be beaten in a few sittings; I spent about nine hours swinging on pipes, clambering up walls, and maneuvering through an abandoned death trap. While the game sells itself on its parry mechanic — and it is quite fun to counter a machine’s attack with a bright orange flash — this is a platformer above all else.
