I've found my new gaming challenge: getting one win against the local Scrabble pros
I've played many games over the years, but I didn't expect my local Scrabble club to be one of my greatest challenges.
I’ve been struggling with socialization lately; it’s not easy to make friends in your mid-thirties, and while I have a dozen Discord servers full of friends, there’s a certain something that you can only really get from being around other people. I suppose you could say I’m a bit of a gamer, and so I looked into local gaming groups and found something that was technically eligible but not my immediate cup of tea: a Scrabble club. This club is within walking distance, has quite a prestigious reputation in the greater Scrabble community, and admission is just a few bucks at the door.
Showing up for Scrabble Night was pretty simple; I just had to register in a Facebook group chat and show up on time to be matched for a game. I’m in my mid-thirties, and I was still the youngest person there. I’ve played a pretty wide variety of board games, and I’m a writer, so I figured that I’d do okay. Scrabble is about making big words on a board and hitting the right tiles. It can’t be that difficult.
