Final Fantasy. Ever heard of it?

We've already covered a few of the great deals you can get on Steam right now during the Steam Summer sale. We've done a great overall look at the sale, and we've done a more indie focused one.

But now it's time to highlight a franchise you may not have heard of: Final Fantasy.

"Wow, Ryan, how bold of you to recommend one of the oldest and most popular franchises in gaming." I hear you; I hear that feedback. But there are some good ass games in the Final Fantasy series. And if you, like me, didn't get into it until later in life (or still have yet to get into it at all), there are quite a few quality titles you might be missing.

And if you've been thinking, "you know, I really should get into those Final Fantasy VII remake games before they finish next year," there are some great deals on those too.

The classic era

In case you aren't aware, you can pick up a ton of the old Final Fantasy games on Steam. They all have mostly good reviews, and are fully playable from the comfort of your desktop or your Steam Deck.

You're not going to find these games for the dirt cheap prices you might expect, especially considering the first four games (in Japan) are older than I am, and I'm 32 years old. But they're a lot of bank for your buck, and your buck will still go a long way if you're trying to fill out your classic collection.

  • Final Fantasy $7.19
  • Final Fantasy II $7.19
  • Final Fantasy III $10.79
  • Final Fantasy III (3D) $7.99
  • Final Fantasy IV $10.79
  • Final Fantasy IV (3D) $7.99
  • Final Fantasy V $10.79
  • Final Fantasy VI $10.79
  • Final Fantasy VII $4.79
  • Final Fantasy VIII $4.79
  • Final Fantasy IX $6.29
  • Final Fantasy X/X2 $11.99
  • Final Fantasy XI (Not on sale) $29.99
  • Final Fantasy XII $14.99

The "modern" and spinoff era

I started my adventure with Final Fantasy part-way through this era, with Final Fantasy XV, but I'm gonna say this era starts with Final Fantasy XIII and its legion of sequels for no particular reason.

These are not official categories, I make the rules here.

Anyway, we're also going to include some of the big spinoffs you can grab here: Tactics and Stranger of Paradise, which are both super cool.

  • Final Fantasy XIII $6.39
  • Final Fantasy XIII-2 $7.99
  • Lightning Returns - Final Fantasy XIII $7.99
  • Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail (most recent expansion) $19.99
  • Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition $13.99
  • Final Fantasy XVI $19.99
  • Final Fantasy XVI Expansion Pass $9.99
  • Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles $34.99
  • Stranger of Paradise - Final Fantasy Origin $15.99

If I may, Final Fantasy XVI is very new, and this is a great price for it. It's a little polarizing, for some weird reason, but it's truly such an excellent game with a great main character (and great VO in general), phenomenal combat, and boss fights more dazzling than almost any game I've ever seen. It's a steal for $20.

The remake era

Final Fantasy VII has always been the Final Fantasy. And you might think "um, actually the Final Fantasy is the one I love the most," but as someone who spent most of their gaming career as a Final Fantasy onlooker ... it's Final Fantasty VII. Sorry.

Even if you don't agree with me, Square definitely does, as they are milking this remake thing as hard as they possibly can.

But it's OK, because they are fantastic. With the third and final entry coming in 2027, it's time to get caught up with the first two games ... and the spinoffs.

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade $13.99
  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth $19.99
  • Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII Reunion $17.49
