No Man's Sky just keeps going, and this time, it's coming to iOS

Hello Games isn't done delivering as No Man's Sky seems committed to releasing on more platforms than Skyrim

In usual Hello Games fashion, Sean Murray has put out a video on social media today revealing a "little side project" 3 years in the making: No Man's Sky is coming to iPhone and iPad.

In the video, Murray says that the game is aiming for console-level graphical fidelity. The game also supports a remarkably small download for everything that is "being generated at run time", only taking up 4GB at release. The App Store page shows it's even smaller than that, however, at just 3.8GB. This isn't just a small piece of the game to keep your thumbs busy, either. No Man's Sky on iOS is the entire game: every planet, every galaxy, every update over the last 10 years is included—with a few caveats.

While the game will be compatible with iPhone 11 and 3rd generation iPad and newer, there are some limitations that Hello Games made note of in their blogpost as well; planetary settlements are locked to iPhone 15 Pro and up. The iOS version of the game will also not support multiplayer. Hello Games cited the Switch 1 port of NMS as a basis for decisions like this, but hinted at the possibility for expansion in the future based on community feedback, like the much-expanded Switch 2 release.

The October 29th release of No Man's Sky on iOS will allow players to play "the beginning of the game for free" before having to spend $19.99 for the game.
