The No Man's Sky 7.0 update, Cosmos, is available now and brings some long requested additions and improvements. Let's cover some of the highlights.

In Cosmos, players can become a space station Director. This gives players freedom to customize their own space station for other travellers to visit by building ancillary rooms and intricate decorations aboard the station and giant superstructure-like additions to the exterior.

After nearly 10 years, players can join clan-like Galactic Alliances where they can meet new friends, go on adventures, and vie for territory all under a unique banner and moniker. In the Cosmos Deep Dive video below, Sean Murray said that "tens of thousands of players" can join a single Alliance at a time. There will also be Alliance Leaderboards for players to keep up with that can be found at space station cores.

Deep Space Outposts bring new trading posts, contracts, and more to the inhabited systems of the galaxy, giving players more options for interacting with the world of No Man's Sky. These free-floating outposts also allow players to refine raw materials, rather than relying on their own refiners planetside.

If you're looking for the chance to build your own Deep Space Outpost, look no further than the brand new Orbital Construction computers. These base building computers allow you to freely build a base anywhere in space.

To further flesh out the star systems you visit, Derelict Hulks can now be found throughout the galaxy. These massive, abandoned shipwrecks can only be explored via spacewalk and are an interesting sibling to the Derelict Freighters originally introduced in 2024's update, Worlds Part I. Don't get caught dawdling about, though... Derelict Hulks have a nasty habit of exploding in firy Hulk Meltdowns.

No Man's Sky's Cosmos update also brings improvements to the games' visuals and exploration: enhancements to the lighting so that things like smoke interact with independent light sources; improvements to the way clouds are rendered on planets before you land on them, creating a much more realistic look; new asteroid belts filled with debris and massive chunks of ice; further improvements to the terrain details and textures planetside, and more are all on display.

Perhaps most excitingly, each star system's sun is now finally reachable with long-haul flight. Be warned: it is a sun and it will kill you.
