The week they left Jeff unsupervised

This weekend at Rogue, we experienced the full breadth of human emotion. Ryan welcomed a new baby, Cass got sick, and Jeff ate a burrito.

As for Cass, the important thing to remember is that they do not live in the United States, so health care is accessible, affordable, and science-based. I know it sounds made up, but people keep insisting that Canada is real, so I’m not going to argue. Cass is on the mend, and should be back to writing soon. But I’ve yelled at them to log off and stay logged off until they feel better. (For other recent health care-based adventures, check out Riley’s review of Having a Concussion over at Aftermath.)

As for Ryan, here’s the note he shared with us over the weekend:

Downtown KC BBQ and a movie is the way my wife and I like to spend our rare full days off. It's also the only time we ever alter our mental status these days, but we haven't been doing that since my wife got pregnant last year.

More on that in a minute.

With our daughter at her grandparents’ Saturday night, we decided to see Hokum.

My wife is pretty new to horror movies. I've been easing her into them with some good success, but Hokum looked pretty damn scary, and I'd heard as much on the internet. I wanted to see it, and we both like Adam Scott, but I didn't want to potentially cause her to backslide on all the horror movie progress she'd made.

Well, folks, it scared the baby out of her.

As the credits rolled, she leaned over and said, "I've had six contractions in the last 30 minutes." And so, I'm writing this in the hospital. The new baby and my wife are both doing well, and I'm going to spend the next few weeks focused on my family. I'll still pop in for our first Disco Elysium stream on May 18, and you might see a thing or two from me here and there – my Inscyption lookback was supposed to hit on the 11th, but that's gonna by a little delayed; I have a pretty good excuse, I think.

I've said it a few times before, but it's been a really hard year. Thank you for reading this site. And thank you for supporting my co-workers and I on this little journey.

Your dedication to independent journalism is now quite literally helping two little kids survive and one adult man save up for a vasectomy. And we're all very grateful.

All of that means it’ll be a weird week here at Rogue, but I’m hoping you won’t actually notice too much. We’ll have a couple pieces from Tom, I’m going to try to get a couple freelance pieces in, and I’ve got a review Ryan dropped late last week (shocking, I know, but it’s for a roguelite).

Mostly, this just means they've left me in charge and unsupervised. I’ll try not to break things too much. I suppose I might actually write about a game or two. Maybe we’ll talk about comics. Or I finally watched season 3 of Reacher, so I’ve got a lot of thoughts about that (spoiler: he remains large and perfect). More likely, I’ll just find some inhumane aspect of late-stage capitalism to yell about each day.
