It's probably time Geoff Keighley's shows give an AI disclosure

Generative AI is working its way into more and more games, but it shouldn't be our responsibility to figure out which ones they are.

Events like Gamescom, Summer Game Fest, and The Game Awards are some of gaming's biggest live video game showcase events. With generative AI becoming more prevalent — and more controversial — in game development, do these shows need a disclosure embedded in the reveals?

Oh my god, it's everywhere!

Gamescom Opening Night Live was this week and thanks to the initial research of people like Devour on Bluesky (@devoureroftime.bsky.social), we now have an idea of just how many games, and which ones, contain some level of generative AI. I also dug into the long list of games on display at Gamescom this year and while I wasn’t able to find information on every single game shown, I do think it’s important to know how it all shook out.

I have found that 12 out of the 86 games shown at Gamescom Opening Night Live and its preshow, the Future Games Show, are 100% confirmed to use generative AI in some form or fashion in their development process. But even that only paints a partial picture.
